   About MACVSA:

There was initially very little continuing education or established methods to update CVSA examiners. An annual training class was offered by NITV, the manufacturer of the Computerized Voice Stress Analyzer; however, the class was held in Florida. There was a struggling CVSA association at that time called the Florida Association, but it offered little assistance to CVSA examiners in other parts of the United States. It was felt that CVSA examiners needed refresher training after the intense six-day examiner's course. Efforts were then made to establish an association of certified voice stress analysts that would allow an outlet for questions, cold calls, suggestions or comments. The association would also serve as a liaison between the individual examiner or agency and NITV.

In June 1994, a listing of Ohio CVSA examiners was acquired from NITV. On August 5, 1994 a letter was sent to every examiner in Ohio. The letter mentioned the advantages of an association for examiners and asked that they attend an organizational meeting. On November 23, 1994 a meeting was held in Columbus, Ohio. At that time Officers were elected and after much discussion, the name of our organization, the "Midwest Association of Certified Voice Stress Analysts", was selected. The association was originally to be called the Ohio Association, but was changed because of interest exhibited by Indiana CVSA examiners. On January 20, 1995 the MACVSA was incorporated. The nine examiners present at the first meeting, and Charter Members of the MACVSA, were:

Our primary purpose then and now is to provide the best training to our members, using professional instructors. We are a certified training provider for the State of Indiana, which requires mandatory annual training. Our first training seminar was held November 9-10, 1995. We had 38 examiners in attendance in Columbus, Ohio. The MACVSA changed the length of training to a 3-day course, and has held seminars in the spring and fall of each subsequent year. Our attendance immediately increased from the initial 38 examiners to an average of 80 - 100 attendees. The MACVSA's membership increases prior to each seminar, and has grown from nine charter members to well over 300 examiners.

The MACVSA owes a special thanks to David Hughes, Executive Director of NITV. In 1994 David was an NITV instructor, and the President of the Florida Association. He was very helpful during the initial formation stages of the MACVSA, providing existing by-laws and expertise that was invaluable. He has been very supportive of our organization ever since.
